any reason it is found impossible to achieve this ideal, there are two alternatives: open reduction, or immohilisation in the unreduced position. Open reduction is widely favoured at the present time. It is a common experience, however, that anatomical reduction gained by operation is followed by varying degrees of stiffness of the elbow, often severe and permanent. It is the object of this paper to report a number of cases treated by the second alternative. Here the unreduced position is accepted, provided the alignment is good. The elbow is immohilised in plaster until the fracture is united, and remodelling of the humerus is allowed

Risk factors of loss reduction after percutaneous fixation in supracondylar humerus in pediatric: a descriptive-analytical study

Background & Aims: supracondylar humerus fracture is one of the most common pediatric elbow fractures accounting for about 16% of the pediatric fractures. Loss of reduction is one of the complications after closed and percutaneous fixation. This research is aimed to investigate the factors involved in the loss of reduction. Method: In this descriptive study, the children with supracondylar hum...

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF LATERAL APPROACH VERSUS P OSTERIOR APPROACH FOR THE SURGICAL TRE ATMENT OF SUPRACONDYLAR FRACTURES OF THE HUMERUS IN CHILDREN

Background: Supracondylar fracture of the humerus is the second most common fracture in children. For most cases closed reduction and percutaneous crossed pinning is recommended. Those patients who had previously undergone an unsuccessful closed reduction trial need open reduction and pin fixation, but the best surgical approach is questionable. Most surgeons apply the technique of posterio...

Introduction Although supracondylar fractures of the humerus are common in children, open fractures of are extremely rare injuries. Gustilo- Anderson Type-III fractures in the upper extremity are primarily associated with considerable bone loss resulting from high energy trauma. In this study, a case of open pediatric supracondylar humerus fracture treated by a joint and defect spanning multipl...

Bone remodeling after supracondylar humeral fracture in children.

The aim of this study was to evaluate bone remodeling in treated supracondylar humeral fractures in children. The study was carried out at the Department of Pediatric Surgery of University Hospital Rijeka on 58 patients with an average of 6.2 years, followed up during 1 to 7 years. The Baumann angle of the humerus was measured by five observers on the anteroposterior radiographs of the injured ...
